Much like baseball cards, cigarette cards were issued by tobacco manufacturers in China during the 1920s~1950s, to promote cigarette brands. Subject matters ranged from beautiful women, Western curios, Peking opera, etc.One favorite theme was the “360 trades”, which is an expression used to mean all trades. This particular cigarette card depicts a street vendor —— the candy man, sitting in front of a round table drawn with squares in which are placed different types and sizes of candies. By turning the wheel, depending on where the pointer lands, a child can win a large piece of candy, or a token piece of hardened molasses.
